Turn For The Worse

30th of March 2022

Over time, life is supposed to progress to better opportunities. Stuff like technology. Procedures. Policies. Knowledge. In the movies, life is projected to live differently from the way we live now. However, progress has only been minimal. Everything seems to take more time and be more complicated than it needs to be. I could go on a while, but I'll only pick a few things that seem to be more difficult than before.

MEDICAL NEEDS: I get it; COVID is serious. However, now there are 2 places to check in. Now if we're sick, we can't go to the doctor. I don't get how the sick are supposed to get medical attention when they're told to stay home. Again, COVID isn't anything to take lightly. However, we need a place to go when we need to see a doctor. Tele-health is used way more than it should be. How are they supposed to run tests? Why are my copays the same amount for tele-healths as an in-care visit? Also, they rely on their websites too much, and they never work. Checking in online sounds convenient, but I still have to wait past my scheduled appointment time. And when I do see the doctor, they have to see if my insurance will cover the medicine they want to prescribe for me. Why is the insurance company trying to have a say in my medical care? Fuck off, you assclown in a suit.

I also don't get why they're better at collecting payments than they are at anything else. I would rather not survive any of my medical events than to have to deal with the medical billing departments. Healthcare in this country is a joke. With all the breakthroughs we've had, we have done nothing with it in this country.

TRAFFIC:

I spend most of my time in traffic because people are selfish. I won't let myself off the hook; I can be a selfish driver as well. It's hard not to. It's not because they do something I don't want them to. If that was the case, they wouldn't be on the road. It's the way they do it. Braking too hard. Cutting me off (nobody likes that). Going obnoxiously slow. Braking for no reason. Not moving once the light has changed green. Don't get me wrong; I'm not one who honks right away once it changes. I'm talking waiting 5 seconds. That's an indication that the driver is not paying attention. Don't get me started on texting and driving.

DINING OUT:

People have gotten ruder over the years. They treat other patrons like shit. They treat the employees like shit. They make themselves at home out in a public area. I try to be accommodating, but give an inch, they take a mile.

PHONES:

I find cellphones to be an evil necessity. They need constant updating, and they need to be charged everyday. My first cellphone could go up to a week without needing to be charged. The signal drops if the bars aren't full. All this for $1,000 for a low price phone. They're a rip-off. Sure, the camera is nice, but the upkeep is too much. The older the phone gets, the more maintenance it needs. Yes, that's with everything, but phones seem to need lots of attention.

CARS: It seems more accidents happen now more than ever. Maybe since I'm grown up and paying better attention to what's around me. I don't know. I just see lots of accidents which I don't understand. I just got an Equinox this year, and it's basically idiot proof. I have indicators for cars in my blind spot. It has automatic high beams. It has a warning for when I back up in addition to the rear camera. There's a feature that keeps my car from veering into another lane. It's idiot proof. I think we need to produce better drivers in addition to cars. With all these features, it should be impossible to get into an accident.

INTERNET: The internet can be a great tool for many reasons. However, I see more stories about people getting bullied online or lured into a dangerous situation. Rather than use it for educational purposes, talking to people across the country, etc., it's used for bullying, harassment, scamming, and enticing minors. It's become more of a dangerous tool than a benefit in which it could be.

Basically, I haven't seen much improvement. More proof? Movies, television, and music from the 80s are more popular than today's music.
