Have You No Morals?!
25th of August 2022
I can't believe I have to say something about this. The other day, a former place of employment deposited money into my account. I hadn't worked there for a while, so I know it wasn't mine. I don't know how it got there, but I knew I had to let them know about it. As it turned out, they paid me by mistake instead of an employee that should have been paid. Long story short, they got their money back, and that employee was paid.
"Ok, so what's the problem?" you might be asking. The problem is I didn't say anything to anyone, but somehow, it got me DMs asking why I didn't just keep the money. I have a big problem with that. The people who asked me this probably asked because they're constantly misplacing money. Keeping money that isn't theirs is probably their way of compensating for it.
Here's the thing: they notice they're missing their wallet, and when they get it back, they're expecting everything to be in there including the cash. I realize that there are a few differences here. People don't give away their wallets. They just misplace it. There it is. They misplace it. That's what the former employer did. They made a mistake. I let them know about it, and they got the money back.
We all make mistakes. That's all this was. It wasn't done intentionally to screw the employee that didn't get paid. They just paid the wrong person. Point blank, if you lost a bundle of money, and someone picked it up and kept it for themselves, you would be pissed.
