Make It Better
1st of January 2021
Throughout 2020, I've seen posts on all forms of social media about how 2020 sucked. It wasn't ideal by any means. There were things I wanted to do but couldn't, thanks to the pandemic. Events were getting canceled. Businesses had to close for a time. People were asked to wear masks. Not only the pandemic, but protests took place. The country became more divided because of them. Not only did the protests divide the country, so did the presidential election.
As far as the pandemic, it gave me time to appreciate what I already have. ZZ Top canceled their concert in October. I got my money back, and I got to use it in a different way. There was no Iowa Cubs baseball in 2020. The only baseball I had was high school, and that's only 7 innings. It was still baseball, and I enjoyed it. I couldn't be there in person to watch it, but I could see the highlights on the news. MLB had a shortened season, and even though both AL & NL had the DH, I still had baseball. I know the Iowa Cubs will be back on the field someday as long as we do what the CDC advises us to do. Wearing a mask is not that big of a deal. I have lots of them, and I can breathe just fine. People come up with many excuses not to wear masks. Some even went to protest at their state capitols armed with guns. That's a big difference in the protests related to George Floyd's wrongful death. They weren't armed, but they were tear gassed. We have to make things better for everyone. As a white male, I use my voice to get equality for every person. I've used it for Black lives because they do matter. I've used it for LGBTQ lives because they matter, too. They contribute to our society in many ways, and yet, their voices are dismissed. We have to fix that. If "all lives matter", it's time to show it.
Every fitness group I'm involved in has that one jackass who has to complain about people who get a gym membership at the beginning of the year. They always complain that nobody knows gym etiquette and that they won't last long. Well, instead of giving them shit, how about giving them encouragement or teach them? People don't want to stay home during a pandemic, yet when they go out in public, they seclude themselves and talk about people behind their backs. We need to be better than this. We need to take time to reflect on what we have and lose what we don't need any more. We need to help people more as well. This "get your own" attitude is unfair on so many levels when the game isn't played on a level playing field. Racism DOES exist. Police Brutality DOES exist. We need to stand up against it. If you can't stand up against it, then stand back so those that will, can. This world doesn't have enough people willing to help others. I don't want to hear about how all lives matter because they never did to those that say it.
