Social Media Out of Control

21st of June 2018

The other day, I came across a page on Facebook that glorified Donald Trump. I don't remember liking the page, but it showed that I liked it and was following it. Pretty much, the post that I saw said "Liberals not welcome" in a vulgar way. What I shouldn't have done, but did anyway, was leave a 1 star review with the comment "You suck" on the page. Why shouldn't I have done that? Because minutes later, a message was waiting in my inbox threatening my safety. It said "You're a freak of nature. What's it feel like to fuck your mom? I have family in Des Moines. I should have them look you up sometime." I took the "freak of nature" part as a compliment. The rest made me question my safety and the person's sanity. I've kept the screen grab and the message, but I'm off Facebook for a while (not sure how long). I know there are crazy people out there. I know there are sensitive people out there as well. I know now that there are crazy and sensitive people out there. Being either or both can sometimes be a good thing. Being crazy can sometimes mean someone will take risks to achieve success. However, that's not the case here. Being sensitive can mean that someone has consideration for others' feelings. However, again, that's not the case here. In this case, someone wants to inflict harm on me over 2 words (at least that's the only reason I can think of as to why I got this message from this person). In this case, someone got offended by two words that they see threatening someone else's (me) safety as a way to express his/her anger rather than to just tell me to piss off.

Things to know about this: 1) I should have just unliked the page rather than leave the review with the comment. I admit my faults in this. 2) I've never seen this person in my life. 3) I never threatened anyone's safety. This person took it too far by messaging my gym saying something to the effect (I don't know exactly what was said since my gym blocked said person) "I can't believe you have this person (me) at your gym. He's disgusting." I'm not sure where these comments came from. I've never seen this person in my life. I've never interacted with this person. I didn't even reply back to her. I just reported her to Facebook, and after talking to the trainers at the gym, after talking to a higher up at work, I filed a police report. That way, I have it on file the legal way. I'm going to be off Facebook for a while. I can't risk going on after this because I need my job. I told the whole story even my faults. It was my job that told me to file the police report. I probably would have anyway just to cover my ass.

My whole point of this is not to call anyone out. You should notice I haven't even described the person in this at all. My point of this is to show the double standardness of today's society. If the person stalking me (I think it's safe to say I have a stalker) is from the page I left the review for, then this person is going by the "I'm right, you're wrong. Don't believe me? Just ask" mentality. Everyone has a right to disagree. Nobody has a right to threaten anybody's safety. Trump supporters are the first to call people who get offended by them snowflakes, yet when they get offended, they get just as bad as "snowflakes." Honestly, I have no hope for this country. I can't say anything about the rest of the world because I don't know how things run in other parts of the world. I hope to find out. If I like it better, don't expect me to come back. This country is full of hate on all sides of the octagon. I would see posts on Facebook such as "If you voted Trump/Clinton, unfriend me." That's going far. I understand the faults of both. They both have many. We were dealt a shitty hand in the 2016 election. I've even seen some people blame third party voters for the mess we're in. To me, that's censorship. If we're not willing to listen to other ideas, then we're not going to get better. It can't be A or B. It can be A, B or C or even D and so on. Back to my original point, social media can be something fun for everyone. It can even be a learning tool, but too many people have shut themselves off from what's around them that they lost track of what's important. Some would rather win a debate than be friends. Some would rather be right than learn something new. And NOBODY wants to admit he/she is wrong.

In closing, why do people have to suck?
