Not Glowing about the Foam Glow

Something told me I shouldn't have gone

15th of August 2017

If I remember correctly, the Foam Glow Run is the first run I registered to do in 2017. It sounded like something fun, and I had never done it before. I've ran some other events put on by the same company, so I decided to do this one. I decided wrong. The full title of the run is Foam Glow 5K, so one would assume it's a 5K. It was not a 5K. I'm looking at the comments on their Facebook page, and a lot of people are upset as well. Some have said that it was 1.8 or 1.9 miles. Either way, there was no way that it was a 5K. If it was a 5K, it's because that's how much money the organization made off of the event.

Not only was it NOT a 5K, but it was dangerous. The course mostly took place in the parking lot at Sec Taylor Stadium. So runners had to be careful of the water grates, the parking signs and the puddles throughout the parking lots. We all know how well maintained the parking lots are in this city. I just hope nobody stepped in a pothole and injured him or her self. In addition to the parking lot, other participants were cutting through the course. At every turn, I almost ran into someone. I decided that there was no way I was going to run this at all. I didn't want to risk running into people and hurting them.

Another problem were the amount of strollers. I'm not saying that I have a problem with strollers (even though I do which I'll talk about in another article), but the course didn't accommodate for them. The course barely allowed for side-by-side, and if one runner wanted to pass another, they had to go off the path possibly into oncoming running traffic.

I didn't walk out glowing at all either. There wasn't a lot of the glow on my clothes when I was done. I walked under the foam even, and I still didn't get anything. I didn't see much from the other participants as well. Looking at the Facebook event page, I can see many other people mad as well.

So if you see the Foam Glow 5K come up again, you can go if you want, but you won't see me there at all. It's too dangerous, and it doesn't have to be if it's planned out right. However, I've been shown that the organizers do not care about safety or how to treat people.
