Mr. Warmth
12th of April 2017
Don Rickles was a big part of my humor. He rarely used words deemed offensive by the FCC, and even though I used them a lot, he showed me that laughter could happen without them. The furthest he would go would be son-of-a-bitch. I remember the first time I saw him was on David Letterman some time back, maybe in the 90's. I remember not liking him at first because he was so insulting to Dave, but it wouldn't take me long to realize that this was his humor. He insulted the people he loved, and he insulted himself just as much. He had a wit that will never be matched, and while he had a funny way of showing it, he loved people. Hey was around people all the time. I can never grow tired of the stories I hear about him. I can never grow tired of the stories he would tell especially the way he would tell them. "Would you let me finish?! I'm getting to that!"
I didn't see a lot of his movies, but I will do my damndest to check them out. I did see the episode of Gilligan's Island he was in, and I was just in awe. I know if he heard that, he would say "snap out of it. That show never amounted to anything." I remember one time flipping through channels after work, and nothing was on until I waited for Letterman to come on. Don Rickles was a guest, and my night was made after a bad night at work. I got home about 10:30 that night. He always had me in tears from laughing so hard. There was never a silent moment when he was on stage because he always had a comeback for everything. I've never seen nor will I ever see anyone like Mr. Warmth, Don Rickles. Thanks for the memories, Don Rickles. I miss you already, you dumbbell.
