CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!
3rd of November 2016
I'm not going to be a sore winner because that was the best World Series I've seen in a long time. If the Cubs had not have won, it would STILL be the best World Series I've seen. The Cubs winning is just a cherry on top. Both the Indians and Cubs proved that they belonged in the World Series. They played their asses off and hats off to both teams. The Indians will be a great team for years ahead. So will the Cubs. I'll refrain from saying that this is the best World Series ever because I have a bit of a bias. Lots of records set in this series and lots of standards set by both teams for future World Series.
I knew the Indians would be tough, but I didn't think they would be THIS tough. This goes to show that they were highly underrated from the beginning. They impressed me a lot during this Series. They played well and hit well which gave the Cubs tough competition. The fact that they are such a great team makes this win mean so much more. The Cubs had to work hard and play hard to win it all. With all this talk of the curse over the years, they needed a win in the World Series like this. No matter who won, nobody could say that the winner didn't deserve to A) be there, or B) win it.
I've said it in other posts that I'm the only Cubs fan in my family. My father, brother and sister were all Cardinals fans. I had to hear about it for a while. I won't rub this victory in since I already sent them a text in the middle of the night. However, I won't have to hear about not winning from anyone. Nobody can call this victory a fluke. Not when it goes to Game 7 in extra innings, but I know people will try. No more "there's always next year." This is the first time I didn't have to say that line. I never said "this is the year." It's a superstition I have. What also makes this victory so great is that 15 of the 25 players on the Cubs roster got their start here in Des Moines. Basically, I liked them before it was cool. That's what I like about baseball. Having a minor league team in Des Moines makes it possible to see players develop. I've seen many players develop through the Iowa Cubs. This is the first year I've seen them do it while still playing with the Chicago Cubs. Most of everyone else got traded off. Mark Grace, Greg Maddux, Shawn Dunston just to name a few.
Since the drought is over in Chicago, we can only look into the future. I'm looking forward to seeing how next year pans out, not only for the Cubs, but the rest of the teams. The Indians will come back hungrier. The Dodgers will want to avenge losing in the NLCS. The Blue Jays have been looking better each year. The Orioles keep getting better as well. And let's not forget that the Cardinals HATE being out of the Post Season. The one thing I was reminded of is why baseball is the best sport, and the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians couldn't have been better teams to remind me.
