Underwear Run: Run Free
2nd of August 2016
This past weekend was my 3rd Underwear Run put on by a local morning radio show. The Lazer 103.3 Morning Moose show to be exact. This has always been a fun time for me because I met so many great people the first time I did it. From the Superstars that run/walk it to the Superstars that make it happen, it's always a success. It raises money for the Children's Cancer Charity, and this year raised over $3,000. The costumes are always creative, and it's fun coming up with a different one every year.
I didn't see as many people this year as in past years, but there were some great costumes along the way. My friend Cassie, who I met the first one I participated in, came as Poison Ivy since I came as a cheap Batman. Samantha, my friend I met through the Lazer Rock Girl Search, came as an Anime character, but I thought she looked like a Harley Quinn. I liked her costume either way. I met Adam and his wife, Gina, at my first one as well. Adam still wore the Underwear with a big dong that he kept his beer in. This year, Gina had a great Eve costume. Adam could have worn anything he wanted, and they would still be Adam and Eve. I like it.
The one reason I like doing the Underwear Run is because the first year I did it was a few months after my mother passed away. I don't know why I decided to do it, but I'm glad I did. I met lots of great people, and I helped out a great cause at the same time. I guess I felt I just needed to do something to get my mind back in life. Running in my underwear in Downtown Des Moines seemed like the most logical thing to do. I've made it a yearly tradition. Don't worry. I keep the goods wrapped up.
If I can't laugh at myself, who can I laugh at? Not only does this run get people off the couch, raise money and bring people together, but it also helps everyone let loose for just that few hours of everyone being in their underwear. I have next year's costume planned out. Yes, it has become a thing. It's my yearly tradition, and I hope to see you all out there next year. It's a blast had by all, and there's alcohol afterwards. Before if you really want.
