Star Wars Awakenings

14th of December 2015

Star Wars resurrects later this week, and everyone is celebrating. The picture to the left is of me at Star Wars Night for the Iowa Wild. They were giving out light sabers, and as you can see in the picture, people dressed up.

I'm going to wait a few weeks before I see it just because I'm not big on crowds. Especially since some people like to talk during movies more nowadays, and that's a big pet peeve of mine. When I saw Phantom Menace, it was on the premeire night, and I didn't like it so much. Not just because the movie didn't live up to the hype, but everyone there just wouldn't shut up. Everyone who had a toy light saber kept holding it up during the movie. I thought a fight was going to break out when someone took one and threw it. I thought it was going to be a real life light saber dual. It's surprising to me how many commercials are devoted to the Star Wars release. I'm only surprised because I figured Disney would be very protective of the franchise. I see cell phone commercials, car commercials, just to name a couple. I can see the cell phone, but find me a car-like device in ANY of the Star Wars films. It's all comparable to a motorcycle or transportation by flying. Even an AT-AT is too big to be considered a car. They're as tall as a house. If there is a car as big as an AT-AT, I demand to have one. I want to get home faster than all the idiots on the road. I might even step on a few of them on the way.

It's funny how many people have not seen any of the Star Wars films. I've met more people than I thought I would. However, they can name off all of the Kardashians and tell them apart. It's a sad world somedays. I don't necessarily have anything against the Kardashians, but I fail to see their importance to this society. Just my opinion. Star Wars, however, brought many cultures together, and it didn't stop there. It brought generations together. The biggest debate heard at any convention that includes Star Wars is, well, it's a toss-up between which trilogy is better, episodes 4, 5 and 6 or episodes 1, 2 and 3; or who shot first: Han or Greedo (any true Star Wars fan knows that the answer is Han is the only one that fired. Lucas later added Greedo firing first).

I started out loving Star Wars, but the prequels ruined it for me as well as George Lucas going back to make ascinine changes to the original trilogy (4, 5 and 6). I'm hoping this next round will restore the love I once had for the franchise. I never read any of the books or watched the animated Clone Wars, but I do consider myself an above average Star Wars fan. I feel I know more about Star Wars than I should, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. However, I would be ashamed if I could tell the Kardashians apart.
