Why UFC is BETTER Than WWE

4th of August 2015

I'm not going to bag on WWE the whole blog, but I will point out a bunch of faults that have been taking place over the last decade. I will not get into the "It's fake" debate either. The mission of both companies are the same: to entertain. They both put on a show to draw fans that love their product and are willing to pay money for it.

I was a fan of WWE for a long time. Hulk Hogan is the one that got me hooked (I might have mentioned this in another article). I won't get into the situation that involved Hulk because it was 8 years ago and not on WWE's watch. The only thing I will say is that I forgive him for it. He apologized, so it's time to move on.

I never really became a fan of UFC until Ronda Rousey came along. I've kept an eye on UFC here and there, but I never considered myself a fan. I realize this makes me bandwagon, but I'm ok with that. I'll explain why in this article why it doesn't bother me.

I have many reasons why I believe UFC is better than WWE. Keep in mind that I only said WWE, not pro wrestling. I proved last Saturday night that I would go to a local wrestling event over UFC any day. I don't think pro wrestling is dead, but I do think that WWE has ran its course as to being the top company.

1. They erase history too many times to count.

There has been more than just the existence of Chris Benoit and Hulk Hogan that have been wiped out of the WWE history books. I don't agree with what Chris Benoit has been accused of (I say that because there's belief that he didn't do it and it was someone else). I don't agree with Hogan's statements that got him in trouble. However, there is no denying what these two did for the company that is WWE. Hogan STARTED WWE. How does anyone TRY to erase that?! And Chris Benoit did wonders for the company as well, and the thanks he gets is wiped out.

Like I said, there's other times they have erased history. The Rockers beat the Hart Foundation for the titles, but they reversed the decision because of a broken rope. I don't like Shawn Michaels one bit, but the credibility was lost. The Rockers are not the only tag team to fall victim to this type of situation. The Rougeau Brothers are as well. I never liked the Rougeau Brothers, but it just seems wrong to let a title change happen and then decide "Oh wait. I just changed my mind."

2. The WWE runs a double standard type ship.

Adding onto the Hogan situation, the WWE has been accused of racism backstage many times. I have not seen anyone getting fired for it until the Hogan tapes came out. Alberto Del Rio slapped an employee for making a racial remark. Michael Hayes said something to Mark Henry that Henry considered racist. Hayes was suspended at the most if anything. I have no idea why Hogan was fired and erased while everyone else got to keep their jobs.

Not only backstage, but what about the stereotypes we see constantly on WWE programming? I've heard that a few of the "SUPERSTARS" (oh, that one is coming up) came up with the idea, but the WWE went along with it. The stereotypes such as the Mexicools riding in on lawnmowers, all of the Middle Eastern cultures, Cryme Tyme, the list goes on and on. 3. It's company policy to refer to the wrestlers as SUPERSTARS instead of wrestlers.

I never noticed until Joey Stiles went on his rant on RAW, but the announcers have to refer to the wrestlers as Superstars. That's stretching it by far. Not only is it just wrong in general, but it takes the credibility out of it. These are human beings with athletic ability that not a lot of people have. What makes them SUPERSTARS?! I found Superstars in comic books.

4. The Women's Division is a joke.

Excuse me. It's actually called the Divas Division. Again, it takes out the credibility to some great female athletes with a lot to offer in the ring. I'm not opposed to making them look sexy. I get that. However, calling it the Divas Division makes it seem like catfighting. You'll never call what Ronda Rousey does catfighting. I'd never call her a diva either. The women's division in UFC is gaining lots of momentum because of Ronda Rousey, and I'd go as far as to say that it's getting more popular than the men.

5. It's the same matches over and over again.

How many "superstars" do they have on the roster? Why do I have to see the same matches on both RAW and Smackdown? Why do I have to see the same match 2 pay-per-views in a row? It's tiresome.

6. Non-title matches are pointless, especially at pay-perviews.

I hate non-title matches. I think the champion should defend the belt EVERY match they have. Although, I read somewhere that the announcers are not supposed to call it the belt or title. They're supposed to call it the championship. More ridiculous jargon.

7. They had many pay-per-views with an absent World Heavyweight Championship Title match.

Why be around if you don't have a World Heavyweight Championship? Last year, Brock Lesnar was made champion, which I thought I was fine with. However, he didn't defend it for much of 2014. 2014 was a year with a non-existing champion. It looked like they were about to do it again this year, but the Undertaker came back (I'll get to this later). This point can go with the previous point of non-title matches. The Heavyweight Championship used to be why people watched. It's not any more because they never know if it will be around.

8. The WWE pushed the Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak harder than the Heavyweight Championship.

The Undertaker used to be one of my favorites. I still like watching his matches from back in the day. I don't understand why the streak took precedent over the Heavyweight Championship. Not only did it take away from the newer and younger wrestlers, but it shined the spotlight on wrestlers on their way out (Triple H, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, etc.) When Brock Lesnar broke the streak, I was happy. If the WWE ever wants to be taken serious again, they need to make it about the Heavyweight Championship. Fans will get into it more because it looks more like a sport (the way it should be) and less of a circus or a schoolyard fight.

9. Promos and ring entrances take too damn long!

The UFC pay-per-views don't take long on the fighters talking about their fights. Sure, they do some analysis, but it's not a long and drawn out promo I see on WWE shows. I remember one time when a segment with Stone Cold Steve Austin (another one I really like) took a half hour. Really?! It's become more talk than action. Not only that, but the schoolyard fights take place in the ring again when one "superstar" confronts another. I say schoolyard fight because it doesn't amount to anything other than back and forth jawing and then they finally get to the fisticuffs that look sloppy.

While on the indy circuit, they still have the promos and everything, they're usually quick. They also mean something.

Also, the "superstars" take forever to get to the ring. I timed the Undertaker one year, and he took 15 minutes to get to the ring. Then, to start the match, it took another 5 minutes to strategically take off his hat and overcoat. Pick up the pace, would you? In UFC, the fighters get down there and do their thing. No questions asked.

10. The Internet spoils it every damn time.

There's always someone who spills the beans on what's coming up in WWE. They spoil who is going to win and who is going to return. And everyone gets bent out of shape when talking about it. Most people who talk about backstage stuff have never been backstage. Have I? Actually, yes, I have. I won't say anything about it because that's the code of the industry.

11. Triple Threat, 4-Way No WAY!!

I never liked a match that involved more than 2 sides. That doesn't determine a winner, only who was the luckiest in that match.

These are the reasons why I feel UFC is better than WWE. There's not many repeat fights in UFC. If so, it's rare. The promos don't take up an entire segment. It's usually a minute or two. There's always a purpose for the fights on UFC, and the announcers are good about telling the audience where the winner can expect to be after the fight. There has been arguments over whether the UFC is real or not, but I have seen no proof that it is predetermined, like WWE is.
