Terminator: Genisys and Suicide Squad ALL in ONE

14th of July 2015

I couldn't decide which one to write about, so I picked both Terminator: Genisys and Suicide Squad, which will be out next year. Don't mind the drawing. I know it's not the greatest, but I was bored. First, I'll start with Terminator. I love the Terminator series, so I was dying to see Genisys come out. I was impressed to see that Allan Taylor had tied the series together so well. Usually, I don't see that with many series of movies. The Batman series that started in the late 80s is an example of that. Like the Batman series, the Terminator series started with a different director (James Cameron) and also different actors for major roles. What made it hard for the Batman series to follow was whether they were supposed to be tied together at all. Only a handful of actors were in all four films of the series. Terminator succeeded by bringing back Arnold Schwartzenegger and using him as multiple terminators including the first one he played (Model 101) in 1984.

I don't understand how this film got negative reviews. I loved it. Everything tied together better than I thought it would. I liked how Arnold's Terminator aged throughout the film. It gave me a sense that there are flaws to the terminators themselves. The movie does involve a twist that I didn't expect, and if you want to know it, go see the movie. I don't give out spoilers. This film brought back much of what I like about action movies....ACTION!! While Kingsman was another great action flick that I loved, Terminator: Genisys filled a void that has lacked since the great days of action flicks. Once the millineum came, Hollywood seemed to shift the focus of an action film into more of an emotional film be it romance or other feelings. BORING! The most romantic film a man wants to see is a porn. In an action film, I want gun fights, car chases, fist fights, and I want to believe it. In other words, there has to be a reason for everything. For example, in Terminator, the time travel only works if the object being sent back is covered in flesh. I left the theater, not only a little tipsy (relax, I had a designated driver), but I left just happy that the action genre of film isn't totally dead. I'm hoping it will continue with quite a bit of movies coming out in 2016. There are a bunch of films coming out in 2016, but I'll focus on Suicide Squad.

How did I not hear about Suicide Squad until there were talks about the film being made? This sounds like an awesome film and comic series. I saw the trailor, and I'm excited to see Jared Leto's Joker. So far, I'm impressed. I was never a fan of Heath Ledger's Joker, but I'm not going to knock it. I will say that this Joker seems like everything I imagine in the Joker: sadistic, psychotic, dark humor and maniacal. I'm also excited to see Harley Quinn on film. The first time I saw Harley Quinn was in the animated series in the 90s. I remember thinking "It makes sense for the Joker to have a sidekick." And they made a great one out of Harley Quinn. I'm especially excited that Margot Robbie was chosen to play her (Hey, I'm single. I can't help it).

Not only is this a film about DC Comic characters, but it has a twist of villians doing good. I'm ready for this film already, but I have to wait year for it. One flaw Hollywood has is that they take their sweet ass time giving the green light to projects. However, once the crews get the green light, they get right to work. I know Suicide Squad will be worth the wait.
